History of Fukuroi Plant Establishment
The KIYAN PHARMA Fukuroi Plant was established in 1971 by Roche Japan Co., Ltd. in Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture. At that time, it was the world’s largest manufacturing base for vitamin B2, attracting industry attention with its production capacity.
In 2016, KIYAN PHARMA Co., Ltd. acquired the plant from API Corporation, obtaining its production facilities. The plant’s role was strengthened as a production base not only for pharmaceutical APIs and intermediates but also for 5-ALA.
Production of 5-ALA
5-ALA is used as a pharmaceutical API, as well as an ingredient in health foods and cosmetics, leading to efforts to expand its production.
A special fermentation technology is used in the production process of 5-ALA, efficiently producing high-quality 5-ALA with photosynthetic bacteria. This technology enables mass production of high-purity, stable-quality 5-ALA.
5-ALA Manufacturing Process
Three main steps: Fermentation, Purification, Crystallization
Industrial Production Technology of 5-ALA
In the industrial production of 5-ALA, the fermentation process utilizing photosynthetic bacteria is central. This process involves growing photosynthetic bacteria (bacteria) in large fermentation tanks at the Fukuroi Plant to produce 5-ALA.
The Fukuroi Plant has also completed the technologies for the purification and crystallization of 5-ALA, making this 5-ALA highly valuable as an ingredient not only in pharmaceuticals but also in health foods and cosmetics.
Expansion of the 5-ALA Manufacturing Business
5-ALA is called the “fundamental substance of life” due to its functionality, playing an important role in the body as an amino acid essential for energy production.
5-ALA is used in various applications such as pharmaceuticals, health foods, cosmetics, fertilizers, and feed, each requiring specific standards and quality. The Fukuroi Plant ensures strict manufacturing processes and quality control to meet the expanding demand in domestic and international markets, providing high-quality 5-ALA products.
The Fukuroi Plant serves as the mother plant for 5-ALA and continues to expand its scale.
