Anubias 'Marble White' is a rare and highly sought-after variety of Anubias, known for its striking variegated leaves. It’s a hybrid or cultivated form of the more common Anubias species but stands out due to its unique coloration, making it a prized plant in aquascaping and aquarium setups.

Key Features:

  • Common Name: Anubias 'Marble White'
  • Family: Araceae
  • Origin: Cultivated variety (Anubias species are native to West Africa)
  • Appearance:
    • The most distinguishing feature is the variegated leaves, with a striking mix of white and green marbling. Some leaves may even appear almost entirely white, while others display varying degrees of mottling.
    • Like other Anubias species, it has thick, leathery leaves and a slow-growing, rhizome-based structure.
    • It is a small to medium-sized plant, perfect for accenting hardscapes or foreground/midground areas of an aquascape.

Care and Growing Conditions:

  • Lighting:
    • Anubias 'Marble White' prefers low to moderate light. In higher lighting, the white portions of the leaves are more likely to burn or develop algae, so lower light levels are ideal.
    • Too much light can damage the variegated parts of the plant, which lack chlorophyll and are more sensitive.
  • CO₂: While not essential, adding CO₂ will promote healthier and faster growth, especially in aquariums.
  • Water Conditions:
    • Temperature: 20°C to 28°C (68°F to 82°F)
    • pH: 6.0 to 7.5
    • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
  • Substrate: Like other Anubias, this plant should be attached to rocks, driftwood, or other hardscape rather than being buried in the substrate. Burying the rhizome may cause it to rot.
  • Growth Rate: It has a slow growth rate, typical of Anubias species, but patience is rewarded with its stunning foliage.
